A retelling of gender flipped Sherlock Holmes in a Lovecraftian fantasy world. It took some time to settle into the fantasy world building. But I was left detached from the characters in most parts of the novel.
Captain John Wyndham finds lodging at 221b Martyrs Walk. His new housemate is Ms. Shaharazad Haas, a consulting sorceress of mercurial temperament and dark reputation. Ms. Haas has a case of blackmail to solve, and she comes up with a suspect list. But the parts I didn’t enjoy were the pirates and the vampires. Too much fiction for Holmes and Watson!
