Reflections | Macbeth by Jo Nesbo

#QOTD – Do you enjoy classic retellings?

The first time I read Shakespeare was back in grade 9. Macbeth was a part of my syllabus. Before I started with the text, I was very skeptical as to whether I am even capable to understand Shakespeare. But well I loved it.

Last year (when we could go to the bookstores), I spotted this book and I was super excited to read. It is the retelling of my favourite Shakespeare, but alas I didn’t enjoy it as much. As an independent plot, it would have been brilliant. But with Shakespeare in the mind, it was difficult to enjoy.

Macbeth, Banquo and Duncan here were police sergeants. Hecate witch was a drug lord. And Lady Macbeth was just called Lady.

I think some stories are best left on their own. They are classic for a reason!
