Mornings can be very busy. Hitting the snooze button, running around to finish the home chores, and still getting out of the house in time! Between all this, we tend to forget about our skin. It’s going to be exposed to the harsh weather and pollution, and we have to prep it up.
Cleanse – Tone – Essence – Moisturize – SPF
Following is my morning skin care routine I do everyday. It is very simple, does not take so much time and effort, and still is very effective! I follow this routine in both summers and winters!
Step 1: Cleanse your skin.
Excess oils and impurities have built up on your skin at night and can clog my pores, so I have to gently remove them. Use a mild water-based or a gel based cleanser for the following skincare products to work better. I use the Swiss Tempelle Deep Purifying Face Wash. It is mild, deeply cleansing my skin without drying it.
Step 2: Tone your skin.
This is a very important step as a good toner helps in removing any remaining bits of oil and dirt left behind by a cleanser. It shrinks the pores and balances the pH level of your skin. I use the Plum Green Tea Alcohol-Free Toner to tone my skin.
Step 3: Boost up the hydrating essence.
Hydration is the key to all skin locks! And essence being this beautiful watery lotion boosts up the hydration. It normally comes in tall glass bottles, and I just find that packaging very pretty and elegant. My favorites are the L’Oreal Paris Hydrafresh Anti-Ox Grape Seed Hydrating SPA Water and the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Clear Lotion. The Neutrogena one also acts as a hydrating toner. So you have double toning!
Step 4: Lock in the moisture.
Seal in all the nutrients you just supplied to your skin with a light moisturizer. I stick to gel-type moisturizes, because richer creams clog up my pores and make my skin even shinier. My go to moisturizer in the morning is the L’Oreal Paris Hydrafresh Anti-Shine Icy Gel. It gives optimal hydration without drying my skin and also keeps my skin perfectly matte. Also, the ends of my facial skin tends to get dehydrated so my saviour is the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel.
Step 5: SPF.
I can never use those heavy sunblocks. I have to have a light gel based sunscreen like the Aroma Magic Aloe Vera Sunscreen Gel. Although SPF 20 is low, but at least I can use! No oil, no grease – it’s fantastic!
You can also add a step 2 of exfoliating your skin! Regular exfoliation is required for our oily skin to remove all that dead skin cell build up. Although, I keep that step for my night time routine, because exfoliation makes my skin a little sensitive to all the harsh stuff that my skin is gonna go through once I am out of my house. But you can always go ahead – just don’t forget to tone your skin afterwards!
